jewel (case) in the rough

Remember when CDs were a luxury instead of a necessity? Back when they held things like music instead of documents and work files?
I, for one, admit to teetering piles of obsolete CDs that will probably never see the inside of a computer again. I’ll skip over the frustration of how wasteful they are, and zip right to the conclusion: recycle your old CDs through one of these places and turn some of the leftover cases into little tabletop art displays that double as candleholders.
Once the telltale edges of the cases are covered in ribbon, no one is the wiser that this wasn’t picked up in some artsy, in-the-know boutique. But I’m such a dork that I'll take any chance to blurt out, Isn’t this cool? I made it from CD cases!
Step-by-step instructions and images here. When you're done, put a candle inside a glass votive and place inside the cube.

What a fantastic idea!
P.S. I, too, suffer from blurt-out-that-I-made-it disease. I also suffer from blurt-out-how-much-I-paid-for-it-at-Goodwill disease.
Way cool! This is much more attractive then the car that I saw the other day that was covered entirely with CDs and had a vanity plate that said DISCDRIV.
What a great way to recycle!
That is a great idea. How do you join the two cases? Just glue them together?
Yay! Thanks for making my day with this post! I have to blurt out that I collected a whole bunch of EXTRA CD cases for a craft gone bad, and now I'm stuck with bunches of them that now have a perfect use.
I love these, always looking for something to do w/CD's and cases. Is there no concern about puttng a candle in something plastic?
So great! Looks beautiful!
That's awesome, what a great idea!

You could use a battery operated candle - they work almost as well. If you used rechargeable batteries you wouldn't need to feel guilty! Or, if you make several of these, you could light them up with white Italian Christmas lights. It seems to me you could cut a hole in them for the cord.
thanks i made one for my mom with big pictures of my face!
Thanks so much for this tutorial! I made one each for my sister and brother for Christmas and included pictures from their recent international travels. They were a hit. First they both took the photocubes from the package and said, oh these are cool....then they realized that I included their own photos...then they realized that old CD cases were used and were really impressed!!
Great Idea! We can use other images that are match to Christmas, Halloween ambience, etc. Better to put smaller simple candle holder inside the case to protect fire because CD box is flammable. Or simply use battery candles.
Hi!
Today I posted an entry on my blog with a link to this tutorial.
Would you let me know if that's OK?
Thanks,
